Is Luke Harangody Really...Luke Harangody?

" Einhorn is Finckle! Finckle is Einhorn!"

I've been sucked into the madness already, which means watching early round Big East tourney action and learning a bit more about a few folks. Like, say Luke Harangody. Now, I'd seen Mr. Harangody play a few home games this year on the 'ole tube, but last night was the first time I was really paying attention.

So, you can imagine my mild surprise when Len Elmore and crew informed me that the doofy looking white guy was the Big East Player of the Year! Apparently, such news was somewhat unbelievable even to Schulman and Elmore who henceforth referred to Harangody as "Big East Player of the Year Luke Harangody" about 75 more times during the telecast. Seems they had to convince themselves or something.

But all that weird stuff I largely overlooked. Along with how Notre Dame put four white starters on the floor...how it feels like Dominic James has been at Marquette for a decade even though he's only just going to college like everybody used to do before one and done...or how it makes no sense whatsoever that Marquette and Notre Dame, schools whose campuses are in the MIDWEST, are playing in the Big East Tournament.

No, instead, only one thought came to mind. Harangody is Reeves. Reeves is Harangody. Now, for all you young folk, we are of course referring to Bryant "Big Country" Reeves, he of the similar goofy, unathletic look and trademark flat top. The similarities don't stop there.

Harangody, at 6-8, 251 lbs, averaged 20.8 points and 10.2 rebounds a game as a sophomore. Reeves sophomore stats: 19.5 points and 10.0 boards/game. Eeerie, huh?

Each have had weight issues. Harangody started out fat and got less fat. Reeves started out chunky and slowly ballooned.

Big Country took home Big 8 player of the year honors his senior year. Harangody beat him to the conference honors by snagging the Big East POY after his sophomore season.

Both have nicknames. Big Country. Gody. Pretty creative on Luke, huh?

Each is huge on Facebook. "Luke Harangody...THE BEAST" boasts 497 members. Although he played long before the heyday of MySpace and Facebook, the
"Bryant Big Country Reeves is the Greatest B-Ball Player Ever" group is 21 members strong.

Shockingly, Big Country lists Garth Brooks as his favorite artist and collects pocketknives. Other interesting tidbits can be found here. Harangody, well we don't know...

OK, so you've got to see it now. Harangody is Reeves. Reeves is Harangody.
