Welcome to the Show is Right: Heyward's Bomb
Jason Heyward has been the talk of spring training. The 20-year old Braves prospect was virtually legend. His majestic home runs supposedly dented cars in parking lots far beyond the fences in Florida. His batting practice sessions were must-see events. But that was spring training. Meaningless. There have been many a cactus and grapefruit league hero that have never sniffed the bigs. Still, Heyward was undoubtedly a talent, and seeing Bobby Cox insert the youngster into the opening day lineup had to make even the skeptics take pause. But still...
Whether Heyward becomes a Hall of Famer or a HOF-worthy flop, he did not disappoint in his Major League debut. In what was easily my favorite highlight across an expansive slate of MLB opening day games, Heyward stepped to the plate against Carlos Zambrano amidst chants from a sold out crown in Atlanta. Ja-son Hey-ward! Ja-son Hey-Ward! He worked the count to 2-0 and, well, the rest is history.
Welcome to the show indeed. Bullpens beware.
