Passed Balls

They LOVE This Guy in Buffalo, But for How Long?

Passed Balls is like a maybe weekly column on stuff I noticed just passing through the sports world and blogosphere or something. It's not a link dump, nor a thorough analysis of anything but, rather, quick and shallow observations on things I've heard and seen folks yapping about (and you wonder how people question the "journalistic cred" of blogs).

Slowly working my way back. Please stay with me, people. Things that caught my attention along with my Twitter-length analysis of such things. I use the word analysis quite lightly.

Spent some time in the Buffalo airport on Sunday night. Between the HOF game and T.O.'s debut, plus Ralph Wilson's induction, you would've thought X-Mas had come early in Buffalo. Say what you will about southwestern NY, but you cannot knock their love of their Bills.

I think I'm missing something on the whole Deadspin/Josh Hamilton "thing." I'm all for raining praise on someone for a truly impressive, and arguably inspirational story. That said, you f up, you can't knock being held accountable -- and accountability these days extends to media in all its forms. Don't buy that he somehow deserves a pass and that this is slander or something. Garbage. Did it not happen? I applaud Hamilton for coming out and addressing it head-on.

These Greeks are getting pretty good at snatching up NBA ballers these days, eh?

The Mets...ugh. Funny story to no one but me. I'm heading to work today and see a guy you wouldn't expect to be rocking a Mets shirt, sporting a #12 T. I crack a smile and am almost ready to give the guy a fist-bump for rockin' Francouer so early in the gam. Then, he turns and I see it's Alomar across the back. Reminders of our shortcomings and past failures come from anywhere and everywhere. It's not fair.

Side note: football highlights are such a welcome thing. I care not that it's meaningless preseason. Football highlights just trump any other sport. Walk-offs are cool and three-point barrages, monster jams, and nifty skating are nice. But plain old run-of-the-mill football highlights are all sorts of awesome. Color me ready for some football.
