I Pledge Allegiance...to the Rockies
Here We Go Rockies, Here We GoI'm not going to talk about how great football is again. You know that. I know that. Just because the Mets season has become a punchline does not mean I can forgo deep, thoughtful analysis of all other sports. My beloved hardball team's disappearance into the abyss of the irrelevant in no way excuses ignoring the game altogether. And, if you've noticed, my writing of late has turned a bit towards the gridiron. OK, on closer inspection, my last 13 posts have been football-focused. So, I'm going to be more cognizant and paid some attention to what's going on in the rest of the sports world.
Along those lines, I'm publicly voicing my support for the Colorado Rockies. I pledge my unwavering fan loyalty to them and them alone as they pursue their postseason quest. I will root them on towards the hopes of a WS birth. Why? Well, why the hell not? The team is young, and they've got that lil' bit o swagger. They remind me of those feisty A's teams of recently where everybody just seemed to be a ballplayer. They could all hit, run a bit and just flat out knew how to play the game and seemed to have a ton of fun doing it.
These Rockies go about business -- particularly since Hurdle headed out of town -- with a passion that doesn't seem to be as predominant as it once was around baseball (and should be). Spilborghs sprinting around those bases seemed a fitting manifestation of what that team is all about. So, go forth Rockies. Go forth and proseper. Because g-d knows I won't be able to physically tolerate a Yankees-Phillies World Series. Excuse me, just threw up in my mouth a little bit...

Yeah, they do seem like a fun team to root for. Too bad they got swept though. Hope they can bounce back and make the race interesting.
Good for you sir! This is a fantastic, exciting team to root for, and now that they have your former club coming to Coors Field, they should right the ship!
Aaand then came the Los Gigantes sweep
