Wha-ha-happened?

And Another One Bites (More) Dust

Splendid morning to ya! I'd love to breakdown the Lakers Game One dismantling of the Magic, or the fact that the Wings-Pens series is now deadlocked at two apiece and may convince me to actually dedicate part of my Saturday evening to watching NHL hockey. But, alas, my beloved Mets have made themselves impossible to ignore again -- for all the wrong reasons.

The stories about the Mets and their myriad of injuries have seemingly dominated the NY and national media coverage of this team for the past month. From Delgado to Reyes to Beltran to Church, minor or major, the injury bug has found the Mets and it now seems unshakeable. The latest is Reyes torn hamstring and further apparent problems with Putz's elbow: double-whammy.
Frankly, we're OK if Putz doesn't show his face around these parts for a good while.

If I had time, I'd recount how virtually every Mets opening day starter (outside of Wright and Castillo) has spent notable time out of the lineup or on the DL due to injury. Schneider, Reyes, Beltran, Delgado, Church, the list then extends to semi-regulars like Cora and right on down the line to the back-ups to the back-ups with Ramon Martinez and Angel Pagan recently visiting the DL.

Bottom line: this team has holes when healthy. The walking wounded thing can't go on. This team is heading into a stretch that could leave them fumbling around .500 by the All-Star break with a June schedule that includes Phils, Yanks, Rays, Brewers and Orioles the rest of the month. Training staff, it's time to step up.

the mets' medical staff who ever they may be are beyond inept. as they seem to think that any injury can be "resolved" by a waiting a few days (date 2date) or a 15 day dl stint, followed by a few minor league rehab games.

omar, do your due diligence with and better med team. nice trade for a player with a dubious elbow, perhaps next time you can add a few more prospects for a 100% healthy player. also, putz should not have be throwing 98mph at the wbc on adrenaline coming off an injury, especially two/three weeks into spring training. we have gotten fleeced yet again and this time it's on you omar.

also, wilpons learn to ignore bud selig like everyone else... and repeat after me: "no he can't play the wbc." and "yes, we are signing him above slot." mmf.
