How Awesome Would a Coaching Strike Have Been in Oakland?

OK, so Lane Kiffin is out in Oakland which should be shocking to absolutely nobody. We said Al Davis was bats*&t crazy back in January. We were far from alone then, and even further now.

Lane Kiffin is a good coach. If he were a player, you'd say he has great upside. And the Raiders are improving. But everyone else and there mother are going to be having all of those types of debates for weeks, so we'll abstain.

Instead, we wanted to talk about something completely different. An idea that is so tantalizing we can barely contain ourselves. A concept so revolutionary the mere notion of it is at once implausible and utterly exciting. What if there was a head coaching strike in Oakland?

Seriously. How funny/cool/amusing/intriguing would it be if the specter of Davis led to simply nobody accepting the job? Young, promising coaches from the college ranks. Old, unsuccessful former coaches. They-are-who-we-thought-they-were head men. Imagine coach after coach getting the call and politely declining. "Wait, you're with who? Did you say Oakland? Actually, thanks but no thanks."

The reality of the business that is the NFL will never allow something like this to happen. There are simply too many aspiring coaches who would kill to take the reigns of an NFL franchise. We get it. However, it is fun to dream. At this point, Mr. Davis deserves such a fate. It could be like Varsity Blues when Lance Harbor takes over.

Oh wait, they hired somebody already? And he's not carrying the interim tag? Wait, who? But, of course, 11-35 record at Idaho is surely bound for success with the Silver & Black. If nothing else, the 2008 Oakland Raiders will continue to provide great entertainment value.
