Anywhere But Miami, Chad!
This is not how we were hoping this played out. Chad did a lot for this team. He rarely whined. He was the consummate team player. He is a leader. While I certainly don't lament the Jets move, my emotions are very similar to what's written in this column.
We want to see Pennington succeed. Aside from #4 leading us to the Playoffs, nothing would make us happier than to see Chadwick take the reigns for a new team and be successful.
With one exception. And, of course, that would be the current reality. Chad Pennington: Miami Dolphin. Ugh. It makes us sick just thinking about it. Sure, we have no right to harbor this disdain. It's like dumping your longtime girlfriend, acknowledging that it's just the best for your respective futures. You say go out and date whomever you want, and all of the sudden she's hanging out with that one dude you know that's a complete d*&%. Even though you care about them, you no longer can wish them well based on their new mate.
The same goes for Pennington. The Vikings. The Chiefs. Now, those would have been much less problematic. We would have leapt at the chance to see Chad help make the young Chiefs competitive, or provide the veteran stability to take the Vikes further into the postseason. But, of all places, Miami??
Of course, this also leads to the nausea-inducing media scenario of Chad vs. Brett in week one. Should the 'Phins and Parcells somehow pull off a victory at home, the apocalyptic vision for Jets fans comes into terrifying focus. A potential 0-3 start (with games against the Pats and Chargers following Miami), and the headlines taking a decidedly different slant.
We'd love to say we wish Chad nothing but happiness and success. But if that is contingent on wins...and those wins are for the Miami Dolphins...we're sorry, Chad. We just can't do it.
