Brennan Admitted to Elite Club Based on Georgia Performance
Dear Mr. Brennan:
It is with great pleasure that we would like to officially welcome you to an elite club I helped found more than a decade ago. Based on your recent performance in the Allstate Sugar Bowl against the Georgia Bulldogs, you've been admitted into the S.O.S.Q., better known as the "Society of System Quarterbacks."
Your memberhip card will arrive in the mail in four to six weeks. In the meantime, I wanted to provide you a little bit more background about our organization and the brotherhood you are about to join.
Ours is a small but tightly-bonded group whose friendship has blossomed following college careers dotted by unprecedented numbers, a host of post-season accolades and more ass than you could shake a stick at (I would go into greater detail but I am now a student of the Lord, plus, well, you were doing it at Hawaii...oh, if I could go back in time and live for just a semester in your shoes, the sun, the sand, the bikinis...).
Of course, none of us attained the status we desired beyond our college years and, as a result, have constantly found ourselves the butt of misdirected jokes and constant labeling with what has become one of the most insensitive derogatory and hurtful expressions in American society - the system quarterback. It is a term so frequently expressed with venom and acerbic tones. And too often my brothers and I have faced slurs from men and women young and old.
In response to this rampant discrimination and irrational treatment from the media, fans and our peers, we formed the S.O.S.Q. to celebrate what we were all able to do so successfully in our younger years...throw 60-80 times/game, throw up ridiculously out-of-whack statistics and lead our teams to 40-50 points/contest...all while stirring up discussions around our relative worthiness as All-Americans, Heisman Trophy candidates and/or NFL prospects.
Our philosophy is simple. We must not be ashamed. We must band together. We must embrace the truth about our experience as system quarterbacks, and celebrate that very existence. It is the only way we can collectively move towards eradicating the overwhelming prejudice towards us and simultaneously paving the way for future system QBs.
Your effort against the University of Georgia on Tuesday night was valiant, however futile. Trust us, Colt, we have battled against all odds to prove we deserve to be called more than simply products of a system. But, in the end, we cannot fight who we are. Your awful performance was what many of us still refer to as our "moment of spiritual awakening." You will no doubt soon recognize it as such.
So, on behalf of so many of our esteemed members including Ty Detmer, Andre Ware, and your Warrior brother Timmy Chang, welcome to our club. We hope you will adopt our cause with vigor and serve as an ambassador to help recruit potential future S.O.S.Q. brothers like Reesing and Harrell.
It is my fervent belief that there is strength in numbers. Our careers were surely evidence of that fact. So will it be with the S.O.S.Q. You simply must believe in the system. Come join us.
Sincerely,
David Klingler
S.O.S.Q. President

you're gay this blog sucks, get a life.
You left out the therapy sessions where they share stories of being cut by NFL Europe teams, ha. Great job.
Did Kliff Kingsbury and B.J. Symons fail initiation week?
pretty much anyone from Texas Tech and Hawaii gets in based on legacy.
good call.
Really funny column. Not as good as College Football Resources. But your complete absence of logic provides a smile.
Quarterbacks who throw the ball a lot in college but wash out as pros qualify as a system quarterback. Okay.
Where is Tommie Frazier, Turner Gill, and Eric Couch? They ran the ball a lot in college but washed out as pros. How come they are not listed as quarterback who benefited from a system?
How come run and shoot system is mocked and the wishbone system is not? TTU and Hawai'i appear to win lots of ball games. Is winning a poor measure of success?
Is this one of your arbitrary beliefs? Like Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer, you walk around grunting, "Navy quarterbacks qood. Texas Tech quarterbacks bad."
I know. I know. You want to be funny. And I drop a hot, steamy pile of logic all over the place. Then, for good measure, I piss reason in every corner.
Good points, Bevo. Also, it's Eric Crouch with an 'r.' Although, former UK QB Tim Couch might also qualify for the list based on our random and admitted lack of any logical criteria.
What about every Florida QB under Spurrier? They belong in this club.
Tim Couch qualifies for a completely different list of QB's who married Playboy bunnies, Heather Kozar PMOY 1999,
Jeff Garcia, Carmella DeCesare PMOY 2004
Well, it is a list of two for now. Maybe Colt Brennan can get invited to the mansion, and find a wife as he fails miserably in the NFL.
System quarterback. Deal with it, Hawaii fans.

Great call...perhaps we were ahead of our time in trying to compile a similar list in our earlier days...garcia and couch were both represented.
notice our sophisticated pictures and graphics...

You totally forgot Tim "Even I knew Cleveland should have drafted Donovan McNab in the 99' draft and now I'm laughing my sorry ass all the way to the bank" Couch
SOSQs rules!
Funny stuff, though probably premature. Don't get me wrong, obviously his numbers are going to be inflated against inferior competition, but by the same token the talent surrounding him isn't as good either. Watching the game, I quickly realized that no matter how good he and his wideouts might be (and I'm sure his wideouts have some talent), it's hard to throw touchdowns when you're on your back. Unless I missed the part where the run-and-shoot only employs 3 offensive linemen. Seriously, I know they had a center, and I think I might have seen a guard or two, but I don't recall seeing any offensive tackles...
Example, when the Colts played the Chargers earlier this year, minus a huge chunk of their offense due to injury, Peyton Manning had a horrible game (6 INTs). Did people start calling him a system QB? Of course not, even great QBs need to have talent around them. The difference is that in Indy's case, they were overmatched due to injury, whereas Hawaii was overmatched because they're a WAC team and Georgia's an SEC team.
Not that Colt Brennan is the second coming of Peyton Manning, but at least give him a level playing field before labeling him.
