Mets Issue Apology to Fans. I Respond.
Earlier this evening the following apology was sent to all Met fans who subscribe to their online newsletter. First off, kudos to the organization for a quick, appropriate and unexpected gesture. It doesn't take away the pain, but it certainly a noteworthy acknowledgment on behalf of the inflictors. The full "letter" is contained below.

And since the Mets were kind enough to send me an apology, I would like to take this time to write them back a quick thank you note, along with a few subtle suggestions.
Dear Mets:
Thank you very much for your apology and kind words. It is seldom that an organization takes the time to make such a gesture. However, in re: to the second paragraph of your correspondence we would like to offer a quick suggestion. On behalf of my fellow Mets fans, we believe that adding resources is only part of the equation. Part and parcel of finding the right mix of talent is assessing our current assets and making collective decisions based on what needs to come in as well as what needs to go out. Along those lines, we'd like to make the following recommendations as you consider our "resources" this offseason:
1. Blow up the bullpen. Right now. Take a metaphorical atomic bomb and destroy it and every thing in its path. I would implore you to make it so that none of the following individuals is ever seen in a Mets uniform again: Guillermo Mota, Scott Schoenweis, Jorge Sosa and Aaron Sele. If the reverberations from the blast destroy Aaaron Heilman, Pedro Feliciano and Billy Wagner, so be it. With war comes casualties.
2. Jettison Rickey Henderson. He's a cancer. He does nothing positive for a Major League franchise, and I blame him (no matter how irrational that action may be) on corrupting the mind of Jose Reyes, who now couldn't seem to care less about his on-field performance or its impact on the team.
3. Send Shawn Green away. Far, far away. While eliminating Green and Schoenweis will dramatically reduce a veritable Jewish juggernaut on this squad, his 'fro and singles bat has seen its time come-and-go. Nice guy. Nice career. Not worth a roster spot.
4. Speaking of our Jewish trifecta, please ensure David Newhan never plays for the Mets ever again...at any level...I don't even want him as a member of one of our single A affiliates. I'm quite serious about this.
5. Ship Glavine back to Atlanta or anywhere else he'd like to go. Promptly. His postgame non-apology is an embarrassment and a slap in the face to fans.
6. Do not be so stubborn that you refuse to part with Humber, Pelfrey or Maine. Be ready to package them up with someone to get another proven starter who will manage to make it through an inning in a hypothetical (clearly) October situation.
7. Sandy Alomar and Mike DeFelice. Need we say more?
8. Moises should stay. One word. Professional. Actually, two words. Professional hitter.
Finally, do what you need to do to bring in winners in these guys' places. In terms of who stays, we won't go through the whole list. Just keep the young guys around and get their heads on straight. Take a hint from Marlon Anderson and Endy Chavez that they can produce and keep them around on the bench. And, finally, don't can the manager. Yes, it's a historic collapse, but let's not make a knee-jerk decision. Give me one name out there that's worthy of replacing him tomorrow. MAYBE, I'd take Joe Girardi. Outside of that, there's nobody that interests me.
We appreciate your consideration and look forward to actually presenting our 2008 postseason tickets to a certified ticket agent at a Shea stadium gate as opposed to auctioning these useless pieces of sh*t on eBay.
Best regards,
Waiting for 2008

Sandy Alomar still plays? Baseball?
why is their Judaism worth bringing up?
no particular reason other than I am half-Jewish and there aren't that many Jewish ballplayers around the league, let alone three on one squad. I think it's mildly intriguing. it was not meant to offend in anyway, so apologies if it rubbed you the wrong way.
best, ed. guante
Endy Chavez hit .287/.325/.380 this season. He's 29 and has a career line of .271/.311/.375, or exactly what he did this season. His catch in the NLCS was amazing last season but his only real asset is that he's relatively cheap. If you have to give him any type of significant raise, do you really think he's worth it?
I really don't think bringing back Green is the worst option, as long as they aren't paying him $12 million next season. He could be useful in a strict lefty/righty platoon with Lastings Milledge as Milledge has thus far struggled against right handed pitching, and Green is still quite good at hitting righties. He's never going to be a 30/30 threat again, but at the right cost, especially considering this free agent market for outfielders, bringing back Shawn Green at a much reduced rate might actually work out.
I agree- it is intriguing that they have three Jewish players on the same team.
However, I am curious about your calling yourself "half-Jewish." What's your other religious half?
Maybe I'm showing my ignorance here, but what exactly WAS Ricky Henderson's purpose in being there? To teach the young, fresh players to be jaded, uncaring, and overly impressed with their own self-worth? If so, he did a masterful job.
As far as the Jewish players go, seven more and we'll have a minyan. L'chaim!
